The Original Backpackers Lodge might not actually be the original hostel in Sydney, but it has been around for long enough that people probably will not question it. Located in the Kings Cross neighborhood, it is perfectly situated for a visit to Sydney’s main tourist sights as well as the city’s best nightlife. But even though it is right in the middle of one of the hardest partying neighborhoods in Sydney, it is actually on a quiet side street that should give you a bit of respite from the noise when you do actually want to sleep.
Rooms at The Original Backpackers Lodge range from private single or double rooms up to dorm style rooms which sleep six, eight or ten each. Every dorm room has a TV and a fridge, as well as a fan and a heater. If you are traveling as a family or a small group you can also take advantage of the family rooms which consist of one double and one single bed, or one double and three singles (depending on your needs). Unlike many hostels in Kings Cross, children are actually welcome at The Original Backpackers Lodge, so you know this is not the sterotypical party hostel!
Some of the amenities you will find at The Original Backpackers Lodge are:
The Original Backpackers Lodge serves both the non-stop party crowd and those who plan to do at least a little sleeping, and manages to do both well. Every night there is a gathering hosted at the hostel, from pizza nights to karaoke to wine and cheese, but the common areas are also closed down at 10pm so that people who want to rest up have a chance to do that. Those who want to keep the party going have plenty of clubs and bars to choose from nearby, of course. It is no wonder The Original Backpackers Lodge is routinely recommended by top guidebooks.
Sometimes serving more than one master can be a challenge, but The Original Backpackers Lodge manages to balance the needs of every style of traveler really well. The common feeling for anyone who stays here is just a friendly and social atmosphere where like-minded travelers can meet and hang out, which is what a hostel is all about.
