If you have read any guidebooks about Amsterdam hostels then you have read about the various locations of The Flying Pig. There are a few in Amsterdam, two of which end up on several “best of” lists - one of them is The Flying Pig Uptown. It was once called The Flying Pig Palace, although it is a bit smaller in size than the other hostels around town. Also unique to The Flying Pig Uptown is its location - while it is close to most of the city’s main downtown sights (such as the Van Gogh Museum, Heineken Museum and Rembrandt Museum), the hostel is also close to the lovely Vondelpark, which means you get to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of a fantastic park after a hectic day of sightseeing.
The smaller size of The Flying Pig Uptown allows its staff to focus even more on their guests, and to cultivate a great balance between a place to relax and a social place to meet new friends. The hostel’s bar is the perfect place to begin your night (with some of the cheapest beer in town), but there are lots of clubs, bars and coffeeshops near the hostel where you can take the party with your new friends. The next day, you can get an easy and slow start by hanging out in the Vondelpark.
Some of the amenities you will find at The Flying Pig Uptown are:
There are both dorm-style rooms and small private rooms available at The Flying Pig Uptown, so you can decide whether you want to be social until your head hits the pillow or whether you would prefer a bit of privacy before you go to sleep. The private rooms all feature a mini fridge, and most rooms - dorms included - feature a shower and toilet.
Like other properties in The Flying Pig chain, there is an age restriction at The Flying Pig Uptown, too - guests must be between the ages of 18 and 40 in order to stay.
The reputation of The Flying Pig goes a long way, but The Flying Pig Uptown stands on its own two feet as well. With a great location which blends both the fun side of Amsterdam with the cultured and quiet side, great rates and helpful and personal attention from the friendly staff, this hostel is a fantastic choice for any stay in Amsterdam.
