The Boathouse
Some hostels make up for the fact that they are farther away from all the action by being exceptional places to stay. The Boathouse is one of those hostels. It is roughly 15-20 minutes from the center of Prague on the city’s tram, but it also has a picturesque location right on the Vltava river and has been recommended by travel guidebooks for years. There are no private rooms at The Boathouse, but you will not find overcrowded dorm style rooms, either. You can choose from rooms with 3-5 beds or rooms with 8-9 beds. All bathrooms are shared, but there are separate bathrooms for men and women. And if you are worried that you will be stuck in the city center after a long night of drinking with friends with no way back to your hostel, do not worry – the night tram goes out to The Boathouse, too. This hostel has been in operation since 1991, so it has a good history of providing budget accommodations to all sorts of travelers.

And you do not need to worry about dragging your hair dryer with you, either – there is one available at the hostel which you can use for free. Oh, and as a welcoming gift, every guest receives some postcards and a pen upon arrival – so now there is no excuse for not sending a note back home saying, “Wish you were here!”
