Mona Lisa Hostel

The Mona Lisa Hostel is perfectly situated in the center of Rome - it is a 10 minute walk to sights like the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, so you will be close to most of the things you have come to Rome to see. And anything that you do not want to walk to can be reached by bus or subway, too, so the entire city is at your feet. The building housing the hostel has some interesting historic elements, too - from the painted ceilings which date from the 1300s to the time during the 1700s when the building housed Vatican cardinal offices - so you can get up close and personal with history in this ancient city.

There are both private rooms and dorms at the Mona Lisa Hostel, so you can choose how much privacy you want and how much money you want to save. All rooms share bathroom facilities and the kitchen. One of the ways hostels can save money - and therefore pass the savings on to you - is to not offer free amenities like breakfast or linens, or have a lockout period or curfew. Thankfully, the Mona Lisa Hostel has only opted for the curfew - from 3:00am until 8:00am, the hostel is closed and you will not be able to get in. Of course, most people are sleeping at that point, so that is probably a good thing!

Some of the amenities you will find at Mona Lisa Hostel are:

  • Free linens, towels available
  • Free breakfast from 8:00am until 10:00am
  • Free internet access from 8:00am until 11:00pm
  • Guest kitchen open 8:00am until 11:00pm
  • Airport pickup available for a fee

The days when “hostel” meant “only for young people” are long gone, but some hostels still have an age restriction in order to create a certain kind of atmosphere. Mona Lisa Hostel has just such an age restriction, and guests must be between the ages of 18 and 35 in order to stay here. What that means for you is that you are likely to have something in common with the other guests, so it is that much easier to make friends. The hostel also promotes a nightly gathering at a local pub for beer, wine, “special Italian cuisine” and whatever sport is on the satellite TV - so that is another great way to make friends!

The Mona Lisa Hostel’s location and prices are fantastic, and the social and homey vibe make it a great choice for a place to stay in Rome.
