Meininger City Hostel and Hotel

London’s Meininger City Hostel & Hotel is the first in this popular chain to leave Germany, and it is just as big of a hit outside its home country as it is inside. It is inside the Baden Powell House, across the street from the Natural History Museum and a short distance from Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall. What is not within walking distance is easily reached by London’s excellent Tube - and there are two lines which stop very close to the hostel.

The idea behind Meininger City Hostel & Hotel is that guests get the quality of a hotel stay without paying hotel prices, so there is a great cross-section of people taking advantage of that - everyone from young backpackers to families traveling on a budget. And if you are hoping to socialize with other guests, there is a rooftop terrace (used for breakfast in nice weather) which can be used for BBQs if requested. It is the ideal place to relax after a busy sight seeing day with a drink and some new friends.

Some of the amenities on offer at the Meininger City Hostel & Hotel are:

  • Free linens and towels
  • Free breakfast
  • Internet access
  • Luggage storage and security lockers
  • Laundry facilities
  • No curfew or lockout

The hostel is wheelchair friendly, with elevator/lift access to all floors and a ramp at the entrance, which is excellent - there are enough hostels in historic buildings without elevators that this is a real plus.

Meininger City Hostel & Hotel makes several top 10 lists, and it is easy to see why. Its central location, emphasis on comfort and great prices - not to mention the fact that every room has en suite bathroom facilities (a nice perk not always found in hostels) - make Meininger City Hostel a great choice in London.
