Sleeping cheap in London can be a challenge - which is why London hostels are such a great idea. But with so many to choose from, how do you pick the best one? That is where we come in. This is our list of the best hostels in London - and this list comes from our research of some of the leading travel authorities out there. We have done the work so you do not have to!

What makes it one of “the best” will not always be the same thing, however - one place might seem pretty basic, but the location is excellent. Another place might seem too far away from the action, but the price is so low that it would be a bargain at twice the cost.

So read through our list of the best hostels in London and see if one of these is what you are looking for. If you do not find the perfect London hostel here, do not worry at all - there are plenty more hostels in London to choose from.

London’s Best Hostels

Several of these hostels are parts of larger chains - the Astor group and the St. Christopher’s group being the two most obvious. Clearly, those two chains are doing something right if more than one of their properties ends up on lists of “best hostels”.

You will also find by reading the descriptions of each of these hostels that some of them are party hostels - sometimes that is exactly what you are looking for, sometimes it is not. Be sure to check that out in advance, because if you are looking for one kind of hostel and you get the other it does not matter how many “top 10″ lists that hostel was on… It will not work for you!

Finally, “best of” lists are going to be a little bit subjective; we have based this list on enough different sources that we are not relying on any one person’s opinion. But to be absolutely sure that a particular hostel is going to satisfy all your needs, the best idea is to read the descriptions thoroughly before making your decision. And just because a hostel did not make this “best of” list does not mean it is not a great hostel - there are lots of good hostels in London, we are just trying to point out some of the ones we think deserve a little extra attention.
