Hi-Vancouver Downtown

Hostelling International has three Vancouver hostels on our list – HI-Vancouver Downtown is one of them. This hostel is located, as the name suggests, in downtown Vancouver in the West End neighborhood. This residential area is quiet and safe, giving you a bit of a refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life, and yet only a minute or two on foot away from some of Vancouver’s best shops, cafes, restaurants and sights. English Bay Beach and Stanley Park, along with many other attractions, are all easily walkable, but for those who want to try another mode of transportation the hostel rents bikes and they are close to public transportation, too.

The dorms at HI-Vancouver Downtown have only four beds, so you will not be sleeping in a giant room with 20 of your closest friends! If you require a bit more of your own space, however, the hostel also has a small selection of private rooms which can sleep between one and three people. So if a private room is what you are after, book it early! All rooms, even the private rooms, use shared bathroom facilities, although all rooms do have sinks.

Some of the amenities you will find at HI-Vancouver Downtown are:

  • Free linens and towels
  • Free continental breakfast
  • Free parking available (very limited)
  • Internet access and WiFi access
  • City tours and activities available
  • Bicycle rental
  • Luggage storage and security lockers
  • Laundry facilities and guest kitchen
  • No curfew or lockout
  • 24 hour check in and 24 hour reception

Vancouver is a vibrant city, and there is always something going on, but if you want a little peace and quiet the HI-Vancouver Downtown is the place to go. It is far enough away from the city as to be in a secluded area, and it does not have a party vibe about it. It is friendly, but the people who stay here are not here to party all night. Still, there is a game room at the hostel with a pool table and foosball, as well as a library and TV room with a movie collection on hand, so if you want to have a quiet night in you are more than welcome. One note if you are driving – there are a few free parking spaces around the hostel, but during the peak season they will fill up quickly, so be sure to ask at the front desk about nearby alternatives for where to leave your car.

The friendly people at HI-Vancouver Downtown help make it a place to return to, along with the great location and peaceful surroundings.
