Edinburgh Central bills itself as Edinburgh’s only five-star hostel, and it works hard to live up to that title. Part of the Scottish Youth Hostels Association, the hostel is in the city center a short walk from the train station and the main tourist attractions. The facilities are modern and the hostel is ideal for solo travelers, groups or families.

The rooms at Edinburgh Central range from private singles and twins up to dorm style rooms with eight beds. So with only eight beds in the largest rooms, you will not find the overcrowded and loud dorm rooms you might be familiar with. Plus, every single bed room in the hostel has en suite bathroom facilites – including the dorm rooms. That is a great perk, and it means you will not have to wait ages for a shower! There are more than 300 beds in the hostel, so you have plenty to choose from.

The options for self-catering or dining out also let you choose which option best suits your budget. There are even options for breakfast – you can enjoy a continental breakfast for a really low price, and if you are looking for something a bit more substantial (and you want to pay a bit more) you can have a full Scottish breakfast. That should keep you going for the rest of the day!

The words “five star” and “hostel” do not often go together, so you might be skeptical when you hear the phrases put together in Edinburgh Central’s case. With one visit to this excellent hostel, however, you will no longer be skeptical. This place is a gem.
