Bishop Lei International House is away from most of the hostels and budget hotels on or near Nathan Road. It is in the part of Hong Kong known as the “Mid-Levels” in one of the city’s residential (rather than commercial) areas. There are still crowds in the neighborhoods around the hotel, to be sure, but they are more likely to be locals than tourists overloaded with shopping bags. This is the place to stay if you are not in Hong Kong to shop, although it is located near some of the city’s fine dining and entertainment.
The rooms at Bishop Lei International House are all private rooms ranging in size from a small single to large suites with harbour views (although the harbour is, it should be said, not exactly right outside the window). Every room has its own private en suite bathroom (with hair dryer), and the entire building is on the free WiFi network. As you can imagine, this is not a place with a bargain basement hostel price - but for a little extra money you can be treated to a bit of luxury, which can be a nice thing when you are traveling.
Some of the amenities you will find at Bishop Lei International House are:
During the months from April until November, the outdoor swimming pool at Bishop Lei International House is a popular spot to relax and enjoy some of the city views. And if hiking around hilly Hong Kong have not gotten you into shape, the hotel’s gym certainly will. To get into the central district of Hong Kong, you can hop into a taxi and be there in five minutes - or take the Mid-Levels Escalator, which is a tourist attraction all on its own, and walk in under 15 minutes.
While Bishop Lei International House might boast harbour views, the more interesting views could be of the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception next door. One does not associate Catholic cathedrals with China, and the juxtaposition is quite something. Also nearby are the city’s lovely botanical gardens, which only serve to further distance the hotel (and you) from the chaos of Kowloon. Enjoy it.
