The only country that is also its own continent, Australia is about the size of the United States but much more sparsely populated. Its big tourist cities are Sydney and Melbourne, both on the country’s eastern coast, and each one could capture your heart in an instant. Travel in some parts of Australia is not expensive, but the big eastern cities are no longer the cheap destinations they once were. Thankfully, Australia is chock full of hostels to help you stretch your travel budget further.

With all those hostels in Australia, however, it can be hard to know which ones are the best and which ones just say they are the best! That is why we are working on compiling lists of the best hostels in Australia.
