Asylum Sydney

Asylum Sydney is, as the name suggests, full of nutters. Travel nutters, that is. The hostel is in central Sydney near Kings Cross Station, a few minutes’ walk from the iconic Sydney Opera House. In fact, some of the rooms of the hostel even have views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The central location makes a great home base for any visit to Sydney, as many sights and activities are accessible on foot. There are also plenty of bars and night clubs around the hostel, so you should not have far to stagger to get to your bed.

The dorm rooms at Asylum Sydney are small, with the biggest dorm style room sleeping only six people, so you will not need to worry about overcrowded dorms where you listen to 20 people snoring all night! If you prefer a bit more of your own space, there are also private twins and doubles as well. The atmosphere in the entire hostel, no matter which kind of bed you choose, is social and fun.

Some of the amenities you will find at Asylum Sydney are:

  • Free linens (towels available)
  • Free internet access (WiFi available for a small fee)
  • Free cereal breakfast
  • Free dinner
  • BBQ area
  • Discounts on tours, bus tickets, adventure trips
  • Laundry facilities and guest kitchen
  • Luggage storage and security lockers
  • No curfew and no lockout
  • 24 hour check in

If you are an adventurer, the staff at Asylum Sydney can get you signed up on a scuba diving course or a diving trip, as well as plenty of other tours and daytrips from Sydney. You may even get a discount on your stay when you book a trip with them. Additionally, the staff is just as mad as the guests - they are friendly and eager to help make your stay in Sydney the best it can be. In fact, the vibe at Asylum is so geared toward meeting up and hanging out that the free dinners are offered every night except Monday - they want you to join everyone else at the Mad Monday Party!

The original Asylum hostel is in Cairns, and it worked so well they exported it and created Asylum Sydney. It is an extraordinarily fun place to stay, especially if you are outgoing and interested in meeting other travelers. This is definitely not the place to stay if you want to keep to yourself - that kind of thing just is not allowed at Asylum.
